About the Author of the Site

Hello — I’m Éloïse Martin, founder and editor of Sonriseartists Art Journal. I’m a practicing visual artist based in the UK, working across painting, illustration and mixed media. Through this site I bring together my passions for making, critical reflection and community-building: writing about techniques, sharing studio visits and interviews, reviewing materials and exhibitions, and highlighting emerging talent.

My practice is rooted in material experimentation and storytelling. I work with layered surfaces, collage, gouache, acrylic and ink, and I love discovering how unexpected combinations create new visual languages. Those same values shape the content I create for Sonriseartists: practical how-tos and step-by-step approaches for makers, alongside longer features that explore the ideas behind a body of work.

As editor I curate content across a broad range of subjects — from technical tutorials and tools-tested reviews to in-depth conversations with fellow artists and behind-the-scenes studio visits. I aim to make the journal useful for painters, illustrators and mixed-media makers at all stages, while also offering inspiration and critical context for readers who simply love contemporary visual art.

I’ve exhibited nationally, led workshops and taught short courses for community groups and art schools, which informs my approach to writing: clear, hands-on, and encouraging. I enjoy translating studio practices into accessible tips and experiments that you can try at home, whether you’re a confident maker or just beginning to explore mark-making and materials.

Interviewing artists and visiting studios are some of my favourite parts of the job — those conversations reveal process, influences and the small decisions that shape a practice. I use the Features and Interviews sections to showcase diverse voices, while Techniques, Reviews and Studio Visits provide practical guidance and honest reflections on tools, processes and exhibitions.

Through Sonriseartists I hope to nurture a supportive, curious community of makers and art lovers. Expect thoughtful writing, useful techniques, fresh perspectives and recommendations that come from real practice. If you’d like to get in touch about collaborations, feature suggestions or workshop enquiries, I’d love to hear from you — contact details and submissions information are available on the site.

Thanks for visiting Sonriseartists Art Journal — I’m glad you’re here, and I look forward to sharing work, ideas and inspiration with you.
